Are you related to the MAPPIN or RIDSDEL families from Essex?

A lovey friend recently sent me this interesting old postcard from Gretna Green to investigate – it shows the marriage details for Hector Graeme MAPPIN from the Parish of St Andrews who married Olive Emily RISDEL from Downham in Essex on 22nd April 1929, witnessed by Elizabeth and Mary Murray LITTLE both from Carlisle.

It is a great family record signed by both Hector and Olive and it would be fantastic to reunite it with family member if possible – I have discovered some more details as below:

I have found a marriage registration for Hector and Olive in the April quarter of 1929 in the Billericay in Essex Registration District, so did they marry in Essex and then travel to Gretna Green while on honeymoon?

I have found Hector and Olive MAPPIN on the 1939 Register both aged 30 living in Chelmsford in Essex, as below, but Olive’s surname has been later amended to CUFFE. Olive was born on the 24th May 1909 and Hector on the 5th August 1909.

The 1911 census, as below, shows Olive Emily RIDSDEL aged one born in Bramhall in Cheshire living at 171 Venner Road in Sydenham in Kent with parents Ernest and Lilian RIDSDEL and sibling William Bramwell RIDSDEL aged one, a twin of Olive – her father’s occupation is Secretary to a Limited Company.

Olive Emily MAPPIN nee RIDSDEL married Ian D CUFFE in the October quarter of 1945 in the Surrey SW Registration District – more investigation needed to see if Hector had died in World War 2?

Do you have a connection to the MAPPIN, RIDSDEL or CUFFE names, if you do please send me an email as it would be great to reunite this lovely old item with it’s original family if possible.

Thank you

Simon LAST
