Are you related to the RATCLIFFE, SCHOFIELD or CROMPTON families from Rochdale and Blackpool in Lancashire?

Another recent old photographic postcard find was the one below of a young girl with her father, which had written on the back ‘ Grandma! Mary nee RATCLIFFE / CROMPTON with her Dad Frederick RATCLIFFE with Bowling Award’

I started by looking for a RATCLIFFE to COMPTON marriage and found that Mary RATCLIFFE had married Alexander CROMPTON in the October quarter of 1948 in Rochdale registration district in Lancashire.

Mary RATCLIFFE was born in 1924 in Norden in Lancashire and her parents were Frederick B RATCLIFFE and Mary RATCLIFFE nee SCHOFIELD – they had married in the January quarter of 1920 in the Bury registration district in Lancashire.

I then found them on the 1921 census, as below, living with Mary’s brother at Moorland Cottage in Norden in Lancashire and they had a five month old son called William:

I then found them on the 1939 register still living at the same address, as below:

Source Citation: The National Archives; Kew, London, England; 1939 Register; Reference: Rg 101/4596f Source Information: Ancestry.com. 1939 England and Wales Register [database on-line]. Lehi, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations, Inc., 2018.

Further research showed that Mary CROMPTON nee RATCLIFFE died in 2015 aged 91 in Ashton Under Lyne in Lancashire and that her husband Alexander COMPTON died in 2006.

Do you have a family connection to the CROMPTON, RATCLIFFE or SCHOFIELD families as it would be great to reunite this lovely old photograph with a family member if possible – if you do please message me via this blog post or send me an email.

Many thanks
